Saltare Ambassador Jill Henselwood Joins Elite Group Selected to Represent Canada at the Forthcoming Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 14–19, 2007

June 21. 2007: Lake Oswego, Oregon - Henselwood, a veteran of previous Pan-American Games, is one of five Canadian show jumpers named to the national team, including: Mac Cone of King City, ON, Karen Cudmore of Omaha Nebraska, Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, and Ian ‘Captain Canada’ Millar of Perth, ON.

The recently concluded Spruce Meadows National tournament provided the finale to a series of five nail-biting selection trials that were topped by Henselwood riding Special Ed, owned by Juniper Farms. Both Mac Cone and Karen Cudmore similarly earned their Pan-Am tickets based on points, during the hotly contested series that saw the top-ranked riders shuffling positions at each trial, while a Canadian selection committee subjectively named Eric Lamaze/Hickstead and long-time team stalwart Ian Millar/In Style to make up the team. A total of 27 candidates for this Pan American Games team had declared themselves before the trials began.

The show jumping classes at the Pan American Games will run from July 26 to 29. Unlike the United States team, Canada must be well placed in order to earn qualification for next year’s Beijing 2008 Olympic Games – at which the equestrian events will be hosted by Hong Kong. Commenting on her team selection, Jill Henselwood expressed her delight by saying, “This is especially important because Canada must qualify for the Olympic Games through their result at the Pan-Ams, so I really want to contribute to this process to earn a berth for Canada.”
